BLOOMFIELD HILLS — The Harvard Business School Club of Michigan, comprised of local graduates of Harvard Business School, announces that Nancy Schlichting, CEO of Henry Ford Health System, has been selected as the Club’s annual Business Leader of the Year. A celebration to honor Ms. Schlichting will take place on Wednesday, August 22nd at the Atheneum in Detroit. The announcement was made by Harvard Business School Club of Michigan board chair, Richard Shapack.
“The Harvard Business School Club of Michigan supports the Harvard Business School mission to train business leaders to make a difference in their communities. Ms. Schlichting is a shining example of the good that can be accomplished from both a business and community perspective when outstanding leaders are in charge,” says Shapack.
“What further impressed the selection committee this year was Henry Ford Health System being honored as a 2011 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient under Ms. Schlichting’s direction. The prestigious national award recognizes performance excellence.”
Henry Ford Health System is a $4.2 billion health care organization with more than 24,000 employees. Nancy Schlichting is credited with leading the health system through a dramatic financial turnaround and for award-winning patient safety, customer service and diversity initiatives. Schlichting joined Henry Ford Health System in 1998 as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer. In June 2003, Schlichting was named President and CEO of Henry Ford Health System.
A hallmark of Schlichting’s career is working with community, legislative and business leaders to improve health services while providing affordable care. She received her A.B. in Public Policy Studies, Magna Cum Laude, from Duke University and her M.B.A. from Cornell University
The Business Leader of the Year event will be emceed by Wayne State University President and Harvard University graduate Allan Gilmour. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund scholarships for Michigan non-profit leaders to attend the 2013 Strategic Perspectives for Non-Profit Management, an intensive six-day course presented each July at the Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.
