DETROIT — Stephen T. Olson, a principal at Harness, Dickey & Pierce PLC, has joined the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Pro Bono Steering Committee. The committee leads the office’s nationwide effort to establish pro bono programs for financially under-resourced inventors and small businesses.
Olson, who works out of Harness Dickey’s Troy office, focuses his practice on intellectual property law and includes development and implementation of intellectual property strategies, worldwide patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management, infringement and validity opinions, including development of enforcement and risk avoidance strategies, and the negotiation and drafting of agreements.
Olson, of Troy, has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property law. He has extensive experience in a variety of technology and business areas, particularly mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies within the medical device, refrigeration, and automotive industries.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from Michigan State University.
Early in his legal career, Mr. Olson was involved in various litigation matters and performed extensive research in all areas of intellectual property law.
