Harness Dickey Announces Class of Principals for 2021

Harness Dickey, an intellectual property law firm located in Troy, announced that patent attorneys Charlie Franklin, Damian Kotsis, and Brad Luchsinger have been promoted to principal.

Kotsis, a patent attorney in the firm’s Troy office, works with clients in the life science and chemical industries with a focus in biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, agricultural technology, organic chemistry, and polymer technologies. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, academic institutions, startups, and individual inventors. He’s helped clients obtain patent protection for inventions ranging from cancer therapies to fuel formulations and also assists in the preparation of patentability and freedom to practice opinions, as well as with legal opinions relating to various litigation matters. He earned his J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy and his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Wayne State University.

Luchsinger, a patent attorney and IP litigator in the firm’s Troy office, enforces the IP rights of both domestic and international clients in courts across the U.S. He has experience in handling matters related to patent, trademark, and trade dress infringement, as well as trade secret, unfair competition, false patent marking, and antitrust matters. He also prepares and prosecutes patent applications directed to automotive technologies, consumer appliances, and more. He earned his J.D. from Michigan State College of Law and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University.

Franklin, a patent attorney in the firm’s Clayton, Mo. office, advises some of the firm’s largest clients in the computer, electronics, and mechanical industries. His expertise spans technologies related to computer software and processing systems, power supplies and circuit, electric motor controls, wireless communications, and HVAC systems. Along with preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications, Franklin prepares freedom to operate opinions and assists with litigation matters including Inter Partes Review trials. He holds a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Missouri.
