The Oak Park-based Hagopian Family of Cos., comprised of Hagopian & Sons Inc., Hagopian World of Rugs Inc., Hagopian Cleaning Services Inc., and The Ghiordes Knot in the Michigan Design Center, are continuing the organization’s 86-year tradition of supporting and promoting the cultural arts and educational endeavors.
Third-generation owners Suzanne Hagopian, her sister Angela Hagopian Snow, and her brother Edmond Hagopian continue the legacy of community involvement and giving started by the founder and their grandfather, Haroutun Hagopian.
The company supports numerous local charitable and cultural organizations including Hagopian World of Rugs’ support of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit PBS, and the Founders Society.
Other projects include hosting the Detroit Chamber Winds Night Notes concerts in the Birmingham showroom at a nominal cost to the public with all proceeds supporting the programs of Detroit Chamber Winds.
The Hagopian commitment to education continues with an annual student rug design competition at the College for Creative Studies, started by their father, Edgar Hagopian 36 years ago.
Over the years Hagopian also has hosted lectures on the history of rugs and their use as a design element for local university interior design classes. The showroom also has been host to authors for book signings open to the public. The company also has loaned rugs for local theater and musical productions including for Michelle Obama’s book tour appearance at Little Caesars Arena.
