Greater Detroit Area Health Council Names New Board Chair

DETROIT — The Greater Detroit Area Health Council has named Francine Parker, executive director of the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust as the new chair of the board of directors  for a one-year term. Parker previously served as the chair of the GDAHC Executive Committee.

 Parker heads the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust  which provides access to health benefits to more than 777,000 retiree members and dependents. The Trust, with $56 billion in assets, is the largest non-governmental purchaser of health benefits in the country. Parker has nearly 40 years of career experience in the health care arena. Prior to her current role, she held positions at Health Alliance Plan, Henry Ford Health System, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

Succeeding Parker as chair of the GDAHC Executive Committee in the coming year is Steven Grant, MD. Grant assumes the chair of the board of directors position in January 2015.
