The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has announced the appointment of Grand Valley State University President Philomena V. Mantella to the Detroit board of directors.
The Detroit Board of Directors is composed of seven members who provide insights to the Federal Reserve System’s understanding of economic conditions and help to inform deliberations of the Federal Open Market Committee.
“Joining the Detroit board of the Federal Reserve is an honor that will provide a voice at the table for Michigan and higher education as the Fed helps shape the nation’s economic policy,” Mantella says. “This opportunity will also contribute to Grand Valley’s ongoing efforts to understand and meet the evolving needs of employers in the region amid a rapidly changing economic and political climate.”
Mantella was appointed to a three-year term from 2025-2027 effective Feb. 3 to fill the vacancy created when James Nicholson completed seven years of service at the end of 2024.
