DETROIT – The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy is pleased to announce the lineup for the 6th Annual Detroit River Days festival that features more than 75 street performers and musical acts with an outstanding mix of Grammy-winning artists and the best of Detroit’s music scene. On the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Main Stage, Boyz II Men, Kansas, and The Whispers will perform, along with some great local musical acts taking to the Flagstar and Michigan Lottery stages.
Local talent hits the stage on Friday night, June 22, with Detroit favorite and soul singer and song writer, Stewart Francke, and up-and-coming country star from Downriver, Ty Stone, kicking-off the entertainment on the Main Stage, located just west of Rivard Plaza. They will proceed classic rock veterans Kansas, who will perform their hits, “Dust in the Wind,” “Carry on Wayward Son,” and others.
Headlining Saturday night’s live entertainment is The Whispers, whose career spans more than 40 years and numerous albums and charted hits. To kick off the evening, hometown favorites Hotsauce and Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences Elementary School Choir will perform.
On Sunday, June 24, the best-selling R&B group of all time, Boyz II Men, will help close out the festival with their rich catalogue of hits. With more than 60 million albums sold filled with smooth harmonies and enduring themes, they will perform their hits “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” “One Sweet Day,” “Motownphilly,” and many others. Prior to Boyz II Men’s performance, the Detroit Symphony Civic Jazz Orchestra and blues singer Thornetta Davis will take the stage.
Detroit’s music scene is ever present at the River Days festival with more than 50 bands delivering the great sounds of the Motor City. Showcased on the Flagstar and Michigan Lottery stages, homegrown talent includes The Howling Diablos, Descarga Ranga, The Blue Pigs, Just Another Band From Detroit, The Marvins, and Luis Resto.
The 6th Annual Detroit River Days festival, presented by the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, will bring its unique festival entertainment to the Detroit RiverWalk and onto the Detroit River from Friday, June 22 to Sunday, June 24. The festival hours are 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The family-friendly festival features the new Detroit River ArtScape competition, a salute to the Tuskegee Airmen, a bike night, recreational activities from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, a pet walk, street performers, rides and games, a Tall Ship, sand sculptures, and live concerts. Admission is $3 before 5 p.m., $5 after 5:00 p.m. and free on Friday until 5:00 p.m.
