Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit Appoints New CEO

Local nonprofit group Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit has appointed Daniel Varner as its CEO, effective Nov. 21.

In his new position, Varner will be responsible for leading a team of more than 300 employees and overseeing all functions of the organization while focusing on assisting people with employment changes and finding successful work.

Prior to working at Goodwill Detroit, Varner worked as CEO of Excellent Schools Detroit, a nonprofit organization with the goal of providing education to Detroit youth. He also co-founded Think Detroit, a nonprofit organization that provides youth recreation.

Varner serves as a member of the Capital Impact Partners, American Civil Liberties Union, Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Connect Ed, and Detroit PAL.

Varner, of Ypsilanti, earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Michigan and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from University of Michigan Law School.
