DETROIT – As the organization celebrates 90 years of helping Metro Detroiters earn employment opportunities, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit will partner with the Judge Group to help the region’s job seekers find work through the use of social media and other online tools. The partnership began Tuesday with the first hour-long session.
More than 50 Goodwill clients are expected to attend the “Job Technology Workshop” session, taking place from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday in Gallery A located in the Compuware Atrium at Compuware World Headquarters. A second session will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. the same day. The program is open only to Metro Detroit residents currently enrolled in one of Goodwill’s employment education, training, job placement or other programs. Other sessions will be scheduled for future dates.
“As the only organization solely dedicate to fighting unemployment in the Detroit area, we must constantly be on the lookout for new ways to help local people overcome challenges and earn jobs,” said Goodwill Vice President Lindsay Chalmers. “Judge Group’s expertise in using social media to connect job seekers with employers will be an incredible benefit to our clients.”
Judge Group Director Scott Sabellico will lead Tuesday’s sessions. He will teach Goodwill attendees how to best utilize social networking platforms such as LinkedIn to find job openings and to develop “trust’ relationships that could lead to employment opportunities. Also included in the program, Sabellico will offer tips on building Internet-friendly resumes and advice for the use of job search websites like Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com.
“Goodwill is doing so many amazing things here in Southeast Michigan, especially helping people get back to work,” said Judge Group Vice President Scott Goss. “This is something we really wanted to get involved in and I’m very happy The Judge Group and all of our employees are on board to offer our expertise wherever it is needed.”
