Ghafari Hires Former GM Executive in Advisory Role

DEARBORN — Ghafari Associates has added Gary Cowger, former Group vice president of General Motors Global Manufacturing, in an advisory role. In this capacity, Cowger will assist Ghafari in strengthening its ties in the domestic and global manufacturing sectors as the firm pursues new opportunities and markets.

 Cowger, of Bloomfield Hills, now operates a management consultancy practice that specializes in business, manufacturing and technology strategies. He spent nearly 45 years with General Motors in various leadership roles. Most recently, he served as Group Vice President of General Motors Manufacturing, Global Manufacturing Engineering and Labor Relations before his retirement in late 2009.

Cowger’s past leadership positions at GM include President of GM North America, President and Managing Director of GM de Mexico, Chairman of Adam Opel, AG and Group Vice President of Manufacturing and Labor Relations.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) along with a master’s degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
