SOUTHFIELD — The 2013 Signature Chef Auction in metro Detroit, celebrating the March of Dimes 75 years of saving babies, will honor an individual in the community with The John Dingell Hero for Babies Award. At this year’s event, the award will be presented to philanthropist and legendary radio voice, Frank Beckmann. Beckmann’s voice is synonymous with University of Michigan football games for the past 33 years. In addition, he has helped raise tens of millions of dollars for charitable causes including March of Dimes, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, the Autism Alliance of Michigan, and Kali’s Cure for Paralysis, among numerous others.
Steve Allen, executive chef and owner of Steve and Rocky’s, as well as lead chef for the event, welcomes back restaurant supporters that include Steve and Rocky’s, Forest Grill, Kruse and Muer, Toasted Oak, TRIA, Rojo Mexican Bistro, Slows Bar BQ and will welcome new establishments to his roster including Torino, Rodin, Ocean Prime, The Meeting House, and Prime29 Steakhouse.
Another new addition to the program this year will be Fox 2’s Roop Raj, who will emcee the event. Raj is also a longtime supporter of the March of Dimes, having hosted the March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction in New Orleans for several years.
The 2013 Signature Chefs Auction is being held Nov. 7 at the Henry Hotel in Dearborn, located at 300 Town Center. Festivities will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ticket prices range from $200 for individual tickets to $2000 for a table of 10 – now available at marchofdimes.com/michigan/events.
