ESD Honors 21 Michiganders accomplishments

SOUTHFIELD —On June 27, 2013 The Engineering Society of Detroit will recognize 21 local individuals for their accomplishments and contributions to the engineering, scientific, and technical industries. These honorees were nominated by their peers and chosen based on their commitment to their industries, their dedication to their craft, as well as for their innovative ideas and the impact they’ve had on Michigan and their communities. The winners are:

Horace H. Rackham Humanitarian Award: 

  • Edsel B. Ford II, member of the board of directors, Ford Motor Company

Lifetime Achievement Award: 

  • ​David S. Meynell, FESD, chairman and president, Dürr Systems Inc.

​Distinguished Service Award:

  • Katherine M. Banicki, FESD, president and CEO, Testing Engineers & Consultants
  • Kouhaila G. Hammer, CPA, president and CEO, Ghafari Associates LLC

ESD College of Fellows Inductees:

  • Susan S. Hawkins, senior vice president, Performance Excellence, Henry Ford Health System
  • David C. Munson, Jr., PhD, Robert J. Vlasic dean of engineering, University of Michigan
  • Ahmad Pourmovahed, PhD, professor of mechanical engineering, Kettering University
  • Satish S. Udpa, PhD, executive vice president for administrative services and university distinguished professor, Michigan State University

The event is at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, and will kickoff at 5:30 p.m. with a reception and networking, followed at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and presentation of the awards, which will also include the presentation of ESD’s Construction and Design awards.
