FARMINGTON HILLS — Emerald City Designs was awarded Best Floral Design 2012 at The Special Event Gala Awards this past Friday, January 18th in Chicago, Illinois. Each year Special Events Magazine distinguishes the finest work in special events worldwide. Entrants range from the United States and Canada to Denmark and Russia. This year Special Event Magazine received 340 entries in total. To receive this noble award, entries must endure three rounds of judging by members of the Special Events Magazine Advisory Board, composed of leaders and professionals in the event industry. Emerald City Designs received this award for “A Floral Romance Sanctuary” in which the designers created a magnificent table made of hundreds of stems of flowers.

Receiving this award was a great way for Emerald City Designs to celebrate their 20th year in business. Owner, David C. McKnight, discovered his passion for events after graduating high school. With an ambitious attitude, McKnight opted against college and began his company at the age of twenty-one while supporting himself by cleaning houses and waiting tables. Throughout the build of the company, Toni Genitti of Genitti’s-Hole-in-the-Wall located in Northville, Michigan was a great support system for McKnight and guided him through his first few years as an entrepreneur. For the past twenty years, Emerald City Designs has proven to flourish by creating valuable relationships with each of their clients. A great emphasis is made by David C. McKnight to know each and every client and to be personally involved with all events. While employing upwards of fifty people seasonally, a great amount of success can be credited to the employees of Emerald City Designs.
