DETROIT — The Downtown Detroit Partnership has selected Block by Block to operate the new $1.8 million Downtown Clean Ambassador program, which will deploy a team of uniformed workers daily to clean and serve as information sources for businesses, residents, and visitors downtown.

“We’re delivering on what we set out to do nine years ago,” says Eric Larson, CEO of Downtown Detroit Partnership. “This next generation represents the sustainably which was the long term vision of Clean Downtown.”

The Downtown Clean Ambassador program will continue Clean Downtown, a program introduced in 2006 when Detroit hosted Super Bowl XL. With the objective to provide transitional employment opportunities for Detroiters with employment barriers, 1,062 Goodwill employees participated in the program between 2006 and 2014.

The Downtown Clean Ambassador program is an initiative under the Downtown Detroit Business Improvement Zone and will be delivered throughout the zone’s 10-year life. A Clean Ambassador Operations Center will be secured in Detroit by the time the program launches in June.
