Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter has appointed Dominique “Dom” L. Holmes as the new director of Oakland County’s Economic Development Department. Holmes brings more than a dozen years of economic development experience from Oakland County and Automation Alley.

“Dom’s breadth of experience in economic development and establishing relationships across the public and private sectors will advance Oakland County’s goal of building a thriving and inclusive economy,” says Coulter. “I am pleased to have Dom leading this key role in my administration.”

Holmes began his career at Oakland County seven years ago as a senior business development representative for international business ultimately leading to being named deputy director – and now director – of the Economic Development Department.

Among his successes is helping to secure a $52 million federal grant to create a mobility supply chain transformation center that provides resources to assist small to medium sized manufacturers in southeast Michigan.

“I’m deeply moved by the opportunity to do this work and energized by the chance to build upon Oakland County’s legacy of exceptional governance and economic growth,” Holmes says. “My colleagues in economic development are among the most skilled in the nation, and we are committed to working tirelessly to uplift our residents, boost the competitiveness of our businesses and strengthen our communities.

“I’m also profoundly inspired by the visionary leadership within our cities, villages and townships, as well as our state and regional partners, who consistently push for economic progress. Together, under the leadership of Executive Coulter, we’ll continue to ensure Oakland County stands as a beacon of collaboration and economic strength.”

Before his time at Oakland County, Holmes spent more than five years at Automation Alley, where he ultimately served as the manager of entrepreneurship and innovation. There he led initiatives to provide early-stage investments for advanced manufacturing companies looking to locate or expand in Michigan.

Holmes holds a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Wayne State University. He is a member of the Biomedical Engineering Advisory Board at Lawrence Technological University, sits on the STEMi Advisory Board for Oakland Schools, is a Central Michigan University College of Business Administration mentor, and belongs to the Executive Board for MedHealth.
