Dimitrius M. Hutcherson Named President of First Independent Bank in Detroit

As part of Detroit-based First Independence Bank’s organization restructuring effort, Dimitrius M. Hutcherson was chosen by its board of directors to be the bank’s new president.

He will report directly to Kenneth Kelly, the bank’s chairman and CEO. Hutcherson has worked for First Independence Bank since 2020.

In his new role, Hutcherson will lead all internal bank compliance and regulatory activities and oversee execution of the budgeting and strategic planning process. He also will manage the day-to-day bank operations and work with key stakeholders which include regional and large banks, corporate partnerships, and retail customers.

Additionally, Hutcherson will work with the bank’s CFO to ensure superior management of budget objectives. He will also oversee the bank’s management and operations, establishing banking policies and objectives, and developing new products and services for clients and customers.

He has more than 30 years of banking experience and for the past four years, Hutcherson has been the chief administrative officer and chief technology officer at First Independence Bank.

Hutcherson earned his Bachelor of Arts in finance from Morehouse College, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

He also serves on the boards of Internet Sciences, the Michigan Strategic Fund, Michigan Roundtable, and most recently, of Vertus Energy.
