Urbānum, a Detroit-focused lifestyle and gift retailer in the city’s New Center district, has been named a 2020 Retail Star by the editors of North Carolina-based Home Accents Today, a trade magazine for the home accents industry. The store was the only retail shop in Michigan to be included on the list.

Located at 6545 Woodward Ave., the store was recognized for its innovative approach to marketing and merchandising as well as making an impact on the local community. Now in its 16th year, the annual list names 50 of the industry’s store operators.

“Urbānum has been a labor of love, and I am honored and humbled by this recognition,” says Detroit resident-turned-shopkeeper Brigid Beaubien. “Our customers – who have become our dear friends – were the inspiration for the new shop, and we’re humbled that we’re living up to their high expectations.”

Offering home décor designed to reflect Detroit and city living, it offers industrial-style décor and found objects in an 1,800-square-foot showroom.

The list is presented by AmericasMart Atlanta and Las Vegas Market and is published each year in Home Accent Today’s May issue. It recognizes independent brick and mortar retailers of home accents, including retailers that sell furniture, home accessories, and interior design showrooms, that merchandise creatively and have a positive presence in their communities.
