ROYAL OAK — The Detroit Zoological Society has been designated a Veteran Friendly Employer by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency in recognition of its commitment to supporting veterans of the U.S. military.

“We have the utmost respect for the men and women who have served our country, and appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills veterans bring to the workforce,” says Ron Kagan, DZS executive director and CEO.

The agency’s Veteran Friendly Employer program helps qualified organizations recruit and retain top veteran talent while providing others a road map to improve their recruitment efforts. Employers that commit to military veteran recruitment, training and retention practices are awarded gold, silver and bronze status as Veteran Friendly Employers.

Among the commitments an employer must make to be eligible for consideration is to provide managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who are veterans, and to continually recognize and support veterans and their families in appreciation for their service and sacrifice to the country.
