ROYAL OAK — The Detroit Zoo’s annual attendance has exceeded 1 million for the ninth consecutive year, attracting 1,363,949 guests in 2014, up from 1,304,114 in 2013.

Wild Lights — the Detroit Zoo’s annual holiday light display — drew more than 100,000 guests, contributing to the year’s numbers.

“Good weather for most of the year, excellent attendance for Wild Lights and continued improvements in operations and facilities were all contributing factors in our robust attendance,” said Ron Kagan, Detroit Zoological Society executive director and CEO. “We’re grateful to our community for another great year and look forward to providing more outstanding guest experiences in 2015.”

The Cotton Family Wolf Habitat, slated to open in the spring at the Detroit Zoo, is expected to be a popular attraction. The zoo will also present its biggest Dinosauria exhibit ever this summer, with 40 animatronic dinosaurs.
