Detroit River Days to Make June Return to Riverfront

DETROIT — The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy announced today that Detroit River Days, presented by the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, returns along the Detroit riverfront June 21-23. Last year, more than 150,000 people attended the three-day festival, which is the annual kickoff to summer for thousands of Detroiters and visitors.

As the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2013, event organizers are finalizing details to ensure that this year’s Detroit River Days will surpass expectations. The 2013 festival will continue to celebrate Detroit’s maritime, ecological, and culinary culture while again featuring many crowd-favorite, family-friendly activities and programming elements from previous festivals.

Interactive exhibits, large-scale sand sculptures, strolling entertainers, eco-friendly kids’ zones, carnival rides, and live concerts with performances featuring more than 50 local, national and international music acts will be back this year, along with some yet-to-be-announced enhancements and new components as well.   Additional details on the festival’s highlights, including an announcement on the musical performances each evening and a celebration of the Conservancy’s 10-year anniversary, will be announced in the coming months.

“Detroit River Days gives us the opportunity to showcase our riverfront and all its tremendous vibrancy on a much larger scale to the region and to the world,” Faye Alexander Nelson, president and CEO of the Conservancy, said. “This year’s festival promises to be a memorable one.  We’re looking forward to the community coming to Detroit River Days and celebrating with us 10 years of revitalizing the riverfront.”

The Conservancy is pleased to have many sponsors from last year returning to support this year’s event. Among them, Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant, which chose to increase its level of support to presenting sponsor this year.  Officials at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort are equally pleased with the opportunity that the increased visibility at the festival provides.

“The Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort is excited to step up our partnership with River Days and the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy,” said Raul Venegas, marketing director for the Mt. Pleasant resort. “We see River Days as a unique regional festival with a beautiful backdrop and large crowds, making it perfect to showcase our resort, entertainment, and great cuisine.”
