The Detroit Regional Partnership (DRP), an economic development organization (EDO) focused on marketing and growing the 11-county Detroit Region, has appointed Robert G. Riney, president and CEO of Henry Ford Health, as its chairman of the board.
Riney has served on the DRP board since 2022, most recently as vice chairman. A graduate of Wayne State University and lifelong Detroiter, Riney says he is committed to the region’s success. In his role with Henry Ford Health, he has led Destination: Grand, the health system’s major Detroit campus expansion and largest health care investment in the city’s history.
“Economic opportunity is a fundamental base of any strong, healthy community,” says Riney. “I am energized and excited to continue working alongside the DRP board and team to build on the organization’s first five years of success and pave the way for a prosperous future for our region.”
Riney succeeds Gerry Anderson, former chairman and CEO of DTE Energy, who served in the chairman role since the DRP was founded in 2019. Under Anderson’s leadership, the DRP is nearing its 2030 goals of attracting 50,000 new jobs and $10 billion in new investment. The organization reported in March that it has attracted more than $9.4 billion in investment and 36,500 jobs across the 11-county region.
“Bob Riney’s dedication to the Detroit region’s success is clear, both in his work with Henry Ford Health and in his community involvement,” says Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO of the DRP. “We are so grateful for Gerry Anderson’s leadership in driving a successful first five years for the DRP, and I am confident that Bob will help build on that success to ensure the 11-county Detroit region is positioned to compete for quality jobs and investment well into the future.”
In addition to the DRP, Riney serves as a trustee of the Alfred I. duPont Charitable Trust and is a board member of Business Leaders for Michigan, the Detroit Economic Club, the Detroit Regional Chamber, the Detroit Zoological Society, Downtown Detroit Partnership, Hudson-Webber Foundation, Motown Museum, and The Parade Co.
