Detroit Networking Event Planned for College Students, Recent Grads

The Detroit Experience Factory and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and are inviting college students and recent graduates from around Michigan and beyond to Live.Work.Detroit., a career networking event taking place Feb. 27 at the Majestic Theater in Detroit.

“Detroit is making global headlines for its amazing transformation by attracting new businesses, visitors and young professionals, and we encourage college students to take a close look at all the city has to offer,” says Amy Cell, senior vice president for talent enhancement at the MEDC.

Live.Work.Detroit. is an MEDC initiative designed to connect Michigan’s college graduates to Detroit job opportunities and promote the city of Detroit as a preferred post-graduation talent destination. Since 2011, more than 4,000 college students from universities and colleges across Michigan and surrounding states have participated in Live.Work.Detroit events.

The event will be held from from 2-8 p.m. will allow participants to network with a wide range of Detroit employers including General Motors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Quicken Loans, and Challenge Detroit, among others. The event will include keynote speaker Jason Hall, co-founder of Slow Roll and Detroit Bike City, a panel discussion with some of Detroit’s young leaders, networking, and a tour of some of the exciting small businesses, restaurants, museums, and places to live.

“Many college graduates from around Michigan look to Chicago or New York after graduation without knowing what Detroit can offer them,” says Jon Chezick, director of Tour Operations at DXF. “Once they see firsthand that there are tons of entertainment options, amazing residential spaces and a one-of-a-kind sense of community, it’s amazing how quickly Detroit becomes an option for them.”

Registration is required but the cost is only $15. The registration fee covers all activities including bus transportation from University of Michigan, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Wayne State and Oakland University as well as dinner and the interactive tour of the city.
