Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology Names Research Director

DETROIT ­ — The Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology has named Gregory W. Auner, Ph.D., its research director.

Auner, of Livonia, will remain the director of Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems  at Wayne State University School of Medicine, and a professor in the Department of Surgery and Biomedical Engineering.

The majority of Auner’s research involves research and development of biomedical microsystems and nanosystems. He has developed an array of
instruments, sensors and microsystems for federal institutions, research institutions, and the medical industry. He has nearly 30 patents, and several pending, for bio implants, chemical, biomedical, and environmental sensors and microsystems.

Auner earned his Bachelor of Science in biology and physics, his Master of Science and Ph.D. in physics; Wayne State University.
