Dearborn’s American Advantage Home Care, a full-service health care agency that provides skilled medical care 24/7, has announced Dr. Deirdre Claiborue as medical director. She has provided medical care for more than 20 years in metro Detroit and Jackson.

Claiborue will guide implementation of medical plans of care for clients, focusing on complex medical issues, and will also address staff education, intake and discharge policies, and opportunities for new services. The position is newly created.

“(Claiborue’s) wide-ranging experience — with patients of all ages, insured or underserved — will support the quality health care provided to American Advantage clients that allow them to stay in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, whether temporarily or for chronic situations,” says Cleamon Moorer Jr., president of the agency.

Claiborue is a family medicine practitioner at Honor Community Health in Southfield. She has worked at two PACE (program of all-inclusive care for the elderly) organizations including Thorne PACE in Jackson as medical director and primary care provider, and PACE Southeast Michigan as senior staff physician and acting medical director. She also has a long association with Henry Ford Health System in family medicine and has worked at Continuum Geriatric Services in Livonia and Northway Medical Group in Southfield.

Claiborue is a volunteer at community health fairs and at Gleaners Community Food Bank. She is also a mentor for high school and undergraduate college students interested in pursuing careers in medicine.

She earned her medical degree from Wayne State University and received a faculty development fellowship from the University of Michigan along with a certification from American Board of Family Medicine. She is licensed in Michigan pharmacy and medicine.

“My motto is ‘Stay in the moment when providing care, and treat every patient with the respect and compassion they deserve,’” says Claiborue. “I’m energized to be on a team that prioritizes patient dignity by providing them with the maximum possible level of independence, choice, and control over their lives.”

American Advantage Home Care offers services to those recovering from illness, surgery, or injury, or those managing complex health conditions. They offer services in 11 counties including Monroe, Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw, Bay, Washtenaw, and Livingston.
