Dearborn accountant and businessman Karl L. Fava has donated $12,000 to the Henry Ford College Foundation as part of a $26,000 gift to the foundation.
Fava is the president of Business Financial Consultants Inc. in Dearborn and an experienced mountaineer, proposed a challenge to the foundation board of directors last December that he would contribute 50 cents per every foot he would climb on Aconcagua, the highest mountain outside of Asia in the Andes mountain range in Argentina. The elevation of 22,841 feet.
Meeting Fava’s challenge were 15 individuals and area businesses, including several foundation board members and the college’s President Stan Jensen. They 15 raised the other $14,000.
Fava’s began his trek on Aconcagua, however, due to a case of the stomach flu at around 16,000 feet of elevation, he did not reach the summit. Fortunately, one of his teammates did and carried the HFC banner to the top of Aconcagua.
Fava is an adjunct instructor at HFC, where he has taught accounting. He also serves as an adviser to the college’s accounting department and has assisted in developing the college’s accounting curriculum.
