David T. Fischer of The Suburban Collection in Troy Becomes U.S. Ambassador to Morocco

David T. Fischer, former chairman and CEO of The Suburban Collection in Troy was sworn in as U.S. ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco on Dec. 27. He assumed his duties this month.

Fischer resigned his position as president and CEO.

“I am proud and honored to represent and serve our great country in Morocco,” says Fischer. “The Suburban Collection and its 3,200 dedicated employees will continue to move forward toward even greater accomplishments in 2020 and beyond.”

Fischer has been recognized as a business executive, civic leader, and philanthropist. He is chairman emeritus of the North American International Auto Show and served as adviser to multi-national automotive manufacturers. He is also emeritus director for the Detroit Institute of the Arts and is on the board of trustees for the College of Creative Studies.

He was a member of Michigan’s Judicial Tenure Commission, and he served as chair of the board of trustees for Oakland University. He also was on the board of trustees of the Community Foundation of Southeast Michigan.

Fischer received a bachelor’s degree from Parsons College and attended Harvard Business School to study executive education. He received an honorary doctorate in fine arts from the College of Creative Studies and an honorary doctorate in science from Oakland University. He was born in Detroit.
