TROY, Mich. – May 5, 2009 – ilumisys, Inc., developer and producer of next-generation solid-state lighting technology, announced today that its channel partner, IHNcorp, has installed several LED light tubes at the Vintage Marina Partners’ Embarcadero Marina and Dana Wharf in Dana Point Harbor, Calif.
Los Angeles-based IHNcorp and its subsidiary, Ecogreen Solutions Inc., replaced T-8 fluorescent lights with ilumisys MK-1 LED light tubes in several areas of the marina and installed ilumisys light tubes in an overhang area outside of Proud Mary’s and Turks restaurants.
“The energy savings of LED lighting coupled with the stylistic design make this an easy transition to sustainable business practices,” said Brian Dunn, general manager of Vintage Marina Partners. “We want our customers to know that green practices are important to us, and reducing our carbon footprint with our lighting consumption is a priority.”
Vintage Marina Partners has added LED lighting to another harbor project and wanted to continue usage with their additional properties. After the restaurant Proud Mary’s burned down last year, the company saw an opportunity during the rebuilding to add environmentally friendly lighting.
“Outdoor areas that need to be lighted throughout the night are a perfect fit for more efficient and sustainable methods of LED lighting when compared to florescent tubes,” said ilumisys President Dave Simon. “LED technology is rapidly emerging in commercial grade lighting applications, allowing for broader adoption of solid-state lighting.”
In addition to providing an energy-efficient alternative, unlike the fluorescent tubes they replace, the ilumisys tubes are mercury free. The 500 million to 600 million fluorescent tubes discarded annually in the United States introduce an estimated two to four tons of mercury to the environment, despite industry and government efforts to limit mercury content and encourage recycling.
