Detroit — While the donations received from partners, friends, families, businesses and others are graciously accepted and immensely appreciated in order to keep school doors open, there is still a deficit in the scholarship fund that plagues Cornerstone Schools. As a result, Cornerstone Schools invites the entire community to join the Walk For Cornerstone!
This fun, family event will be held at the Detroit Zoo, from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. June 10 and will benefit more than 500 students attending Cornerstone Schools. The proceeds raised from this walk will fill the deficit that exists in the Cornerstone Schools scholarship fund and ensure that children who attend the schools can re-enroll in the fall.
The goal for this first-ever Cornerstone event is to assemble 500 walkers and raise $300,000 in scholarship funds through walker participation, walker sponsorship and event sponsors. If these goals are successfully met, an anonymous contributor will generously donate $50,000 in scholarship assistance to cap off the Cornerstone scholarship fund.
“The goal of Cornerstone Schools is to change Detroit one child at a time,” said president and CEO, Ernestine Sanders.
Participants will gather at the Detroit Zoo on June 10 where registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the walk will begin at 8:30 a.m. A continental breakfast will be served and T-shirts will be handed out to commemorate the event (while supplies last). Radio Disney will also be on hand to preface the event with fun activities for kids of all ages, and for religious participants, a Church service will be held immediately following the walk.
