Comerica Bank Executive Vice President Joe Ursuy has been elected to the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025.

Ursuy oversees Comerica’s national businesses for energy, renewables, and waste.

The Hall of Fame inductees were chosen by NWRA’s Board of Trustees from a list of finalists compiled by the association’s Awards Committee and selected based on scores in five categories, including: recognition in the industry as a founder, pioneer, visionary or icon; enduring legacy and impact of contributions to the industry for a minimum of 25 years; steadfast values such as integrity, respect, courage, mentorship, volunteerism and inclusiveness; inspirational leadership at an NWRA service provider or supplier and on issues important to NWRA at the national, state and/or local level; and active Association engagement and service as an ambassador of the industry.

“Joe has built an enduring legacy at Comerica Bank through his relentless effort to help our clients succeed,” says Peter Sefzik, senior executive vice president and chief banking officer at Comerica Bank. “He was the visionary in establishing Comerica’s environmental services department nearly two decades ago, which since has grown into an industry-leading division equipped to support waste and recycling companies well into the future. Clients rely on Joe because he has earned their trust through strong relationships and the extensive industry knowledge he provides as an advisor. His induction into the NWRA Hall of Fame is a well-deserved honor.”

Under Ursuy’s leadership, Comerica’s environmental services team supports a national platform focused on growing its commercial loan assets, while serving as trusted advisors with extensive industry knowledge and a strong relationship banking approach. Clients include waste management, recycling and energy businesses located throughout the U.S. and Canada. In May 2022, Comerica expanded the Environmental Services Department with the introduction of a Renewable Energy Solutions Group dedicated to growing and supporting Comerica’s renewable energy business.

Prior to his current role, Ursuy served as senior vice president and manager of the Environmental Services Department, which he helped establish in 2006.

Ursuy also has held various positions in Comerica’s Middle Market Banking Department since first joining Comerica as a Credit Analyst in 1998. The 27-year financial services industry veteran serves on Comerica’s Michigan Leadership Team. Additionally, Ursuy serves as a board member for the Environmental Research and Education Foundation in Raleigh, N.C., and is a frequent guest speaker at industry events. For the past three years, he has served as a coach to middle school and high school students through the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship.

The NWRA Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will join the 212 previous inductees who have helped guide, build, and transform the industry into what it is today. The leaders will be honored at the first annual Awards Gala during WasteExpo in Las Vegas on May 5.
