City Year Detroit, an organization that provides research-based interventions to help students and schools succeed, has announced four new members to their board of directors. Michael Acheson of Interlaken Capital, philanthropist Jennifer Granger, Anthony Tedeschi (CEO of Detroit Medical Center), and Elie Torgow (CEO of Sterling Group) will join City Year Detroit’s board of directors effective immediately.
Acheson, a cofounder of Blue Water Capital, operates a private investment company. Granger supports nonprofits dedicated to children, wellness, homelessness, women empowerment, and the arts. Tedeschi, a medical doctor, has more than 20 years of operational and clinical leadership experience. Torgow, as the CEO of Sterling Group, manages high potential properties and companies.
“This group of talented, community-focused leaders will undoubtedly bring their diverse expertise and passion for equitable education to bear for City Year Detroit,” says Andrew Stein, executive director of City Year Detroit. “We’re confident that these new members, each with their own strengths and areas of focus, will help us further our mission of enhancing educational outcomes for Detroit students.”
Collectively, Acheson, Granger, Tedeschi, and Torgow are experienced in venture capital investments, community health and wellness, women’s leadership, clinical leaderships in healthcare, and real estate. The four business and community leaders will be responsible for decision making, fundraising, and advocacy for City Year Detroit.
