Detroit-based Children’s Hospital of Michigan today appointed Dr. Monique Butler as the new chief operating officer.
A board certified internist, Dr. Butler most recently served as the chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs for both Sinai-Grace and Detroit Receiving Hospitals. She has experience in leading a complex medical center and improving operational efficiency, physician satisfaction, and communication. Dr. Butler is Lean Six Sigma certified in Health Care and aimed to improve patient quality and safety initiatives in her previous positions. She uses a collaborative approach to working with physicians and the entire health care team on program development.
Dr. Butler received her bachelor’s degree in movement science and kinesiology from the University of Michigan. She completed her Master’s of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee and her Doctor of Medicine degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Butler completed her residency at the DMC.
She also serves on the advisory board for the American Heart Association, Metro Detroit Chapter, as well as an officer for the Benjamin Carson High School of Sciences and Medicine Advisory Board. Dr. Butler is also on the Neighborhood Services Organization Board of Governors, the University of Michigan’s School of Kinesiology Board of Governors, and the Detroit Medical Society Board of Governors. Her interest in mentoring and providing young future doctors the resources to pursue health care led her to co-found the Young Doctors of Detroit program.
