The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, the Volvo XC90, and the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado are all winners of Motor Trend’s vehicles of the year, announced at a gala Monday night ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro won the 2016 Motor Trend Car of the Year award. Fifteen vehicles were eligible, and seven finalists were selected, including the Audi TT, BMW 7 Series, Chevrolet Camaro, Honda Civic, Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mercedes-Benz GT S, and Toyota Mirai.

“Our 2016 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, is one of the finest driving vehicles in the world at any price, though its price is well within reach of the average consumer,” says Edward Loh, editor-in-chief of Motor Trend.

Loh says judges evaluated the vehicles based on advancement in design, engineering excellence, safety, efficiency, value, and performance of intended function.

He says the Camaro has the latest in technology including Apple CarPlay and Wi-Fi, and is 100 pounds lighter than the previous generation.

The 2016 truck of the year winner went to the Chevrolet Colorado for the second year in a row. The judges said the Colorado stood out for its effortless performance in every towing, payload, and driving challenge.

“Our truck of the year is not only stylish and capable on-road and off, it recorded the highest fuel economy numbers we’ve ever seen, when equipped with its class-exclusive diesel engine,” says Jason Cammisa, senior features editor at Motor Trend.

The SUV of the year winner was the Volvo XC90 for its all-new chassis and powerful gasoline and hybrid powertrains.

“The Volvo XC90 is one of the most handsome SUVs on the road,” says Jonny Lieberman, senior features editor at Motor Trend. “And it’s as capable off-road as it is a delight to drive on-road; seven-passenger people movers aren’t supposed to drive like this.”

The person of the year winner went to Thomas Doll, president and COO of Subaru of America.
