DETROIT – Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center, Inc. is hosting a charity preview gala to celebrate the opening of its new medical facility.
The new, larger CHASS Southwest Center will provide expanded primary health care and wellness/preventative services to the community of Southwest Detroit. The new building replaces the center occupied since 1975 and will allow CHASS to serve 28,000 patients a year – 17,000 more than the old facility.
The gala event will take place 6-10 p.m., Friday, April 27, at CHASS, 5635 West Fort Street in Detroit. Guests will be the first to tour the new facility and also enjoy a formal program, dinner and dessert. The menu features “Best of Detroit” fare from Greektown, Southwest Detroit and Corktown.
All proceeds from the evening will benefit the CHASS Center and the many services it provides to the community, including two primary care clinics with 24 exam rooms, four procedure rooms, a diagnostic area, dental office with six rooms, pharmacy, lab, patient waiting area with two-story atrium, children’s play area, a walking track, administrative offices, wellness/conference room, demonstration kitchen, space for Behavioral Health services, and a nutrition office.
CHASS has had, almost from its inception, a partnership with Henry Ford Health System that was the first, and remains the only one of its kind, in the region. CHASS’ physician services, contracted through Henry Ford, bring high-quality care to patients, with an emphasis on the underserved African-American and Latino populations. The arrangement allows the physician staff at CHASS access to the Henry Ford Medical Group for referral and consultation.
CHASS has a mix of payers to cover the cost of services, including private insurances, Medicaid, Medicare, and patient payment for services based on household size and income. No one, however, is denied access to medical care because of an inability to pay.
Gala event co-chairs are: John Popovich, Jr., M.D., president and CEO of Henry Ford Hospital; Steve Berlage, vice president and general manager, Turner Construction Company; Frank Venegas, chairman, Ideal Group; Loren Venegas, president, Ideal Group; and J. Ricardo Guzman, CEO, CHASS.
Complimentary valet parking will be provided. Dress is business attire. Individual tickets are $100 and couples are $175. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.CHASS.eventbrite.com or call 313.849.3920, extension 202.
