Axalta Coating Systems, a global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, today has announced its North American Automotive Color of the Year as Brilliant Blue.
The announcement comes in advance of the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit where Axalta is the Presenting Sponsor of the Auto Show Charity Preview Jan. 15, which will also kick-off the company’s yearlong Brilliant Blue celebration.
“The new hue represents positive energy and vibrance for the New Year,” says Nancy Lockhart, marketing manager of Axalta Color. “The blue shade has depth and vividness with turquoise highlights and is made with Axalta’s high chroma Vermeera technology, a multi-layer process to achieve an intense blue and sparkle effect.”
According to Axalta’s Global Automotive 2015 Color Popularity Report, blue’s popularity increased in total of 8 percent of 2015 light vehicle sales in North America.
Lockhart says Axalta’s color trend research shows blue has been the top choice in North America and increased interest was noticeable during automotive events such as the 2015 SEMA show in Las Vegas.
The company will reveal its Brilliant Blue video during the EyesOn Design awards ceremony at the Cobo Center in Detroit on Jan. 12. The EyesOn Design Awards honors the best production and concept vehicles making their global debut in Detroit. More information can be found here.
