May 12, 2010, Detroit, Mich. – – The Braylon Edwards Foundation will host its 3rd Annual Women Moving Forward and Reaching Back Brunch on June 19, 2010 at the Henry Ford’s Lovett Hall from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year’s emcee is Lisa Salters from ESPN, and guest speaker is U.S. Gold Medalist, Dominique Dawes. The honorees are Venus and Serena Williams, Anne Doyle (one of the first female journalists allowed in a men’s locker room), Dr. Shari Maxwell (OBGYN at Oakwood Health System), and a local high school female athlete.

The Women Moving Forward and Reaching Back Brunch is hosted by NFL Pro Bowler and wide receiver for the New York Jets, Braylon Edwards and his mother, Malesa Plater, President of the Braylon Edwards Foundation. The event was created to honor women who have made an impact in the areas of education, health, fitness, and philanthropy. The brunch is designed to educate, encourage and empower women of all backgrounds to reach their dreams, share their stories and help others along the journey.

The Braylon Edwards Foundation feels that female athletes are making tremendous strides in the world of sports and continue to be role models for young girls, which is why we are celebrating and recognizing them. The guest speaker and women honored are nationally recognized women who have made considerable contributions to their respective fields and have created ways of “reaching back” to help other women along the way.

“I have been surrounded by athletes, both male and female, my whole life,” says Braylon Edwards, Founder of the Braylon Edwards Foundation. “I thought this year was a great opportunity to honor female athletes who have made such strides in their career fields.”

Brunch sponsors include: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Cicchini Custom Clothier, Christian Dior, DTE Energy, GlobalHue, Oakwood Health Systems, Nike, Sovereign Admin. Counsel, and Wells Fargo. Due to Wimbledon, Venus and Serena Williams will deliver video-recorded acceptance speeches. Visit www.braylonedwardsfoundation.org for complete details or call (248) 514-9620.
