FARMINGTON HILLS — Mojo, host of Mojo in the Morning on WKQI-FM, and Chad Johnson, CEO of Lady Jane’s Haircuts for Men, presented the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute with a $10,000 check. The money, raised through the Bras for a Cause challenge, will go toward breast cancer support programs that assist patients in need of financial help while going through treatment.

Designed by Mojo and Johnson, Bras for a Cause kicked off Oct. 6 during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With support from the community, thousands of bras were collected. In addition to fundraising, the promotion was designed to raise awareness for breast cancer screening and early detection.

The challenge came out of the shared experiences of Mojo and Johnson. The two met several weeks ago and, while discussing family, discovered that they were both passionate about breast cancer awareness.

“I lost my mom to breast cancer when I was 14 years old,” Mojo says. “During the month of October, I’m always reminded that my mom lost her battle with this disease. It’s still painful.”

Johnson could relate. His mother beat breast cancer at the age of 45 but 10 years later, the cancer returned and spread. She ended up losing her battle a short time later.

New and gently used bras collected during the drive will be distributed to local nonprofits including HAVEN, Free the Girls, and The Salvation Army.
