July 12, 2010 – The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), a professional association of more than 35,000 general dentists who are dedicated to professional excellence through the pursuit of continuing education, is pleased to announce that Fares M. Elias, DDS, JD, FAGD, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., was installed as president of the association during the AGD 2010 Annual Meeting & Exhibits, held July 8 to 11 in New Orleans, La.
“It is not only an honor to lead this association, but one of the highest points of my career,” says Dr. Elias. “Our members can take comfort in knowing that the AGD is working tirelessly every day, advocating and protecting the rights of general dentists and fostering its members’ continued proficiency through quality continuing dental education in order to better service their patients and the public.”
A member of the AGD since 1979, Dr. Elias’ dedication to the association includes serving as a member of the Board of Trustees (Board) for eight years and as Regional Director representing Region 9 (Mich. and Wis.) for four years. He also is a past president of the Michigan AGD.
In addition to being a member of the AGD, Dr. Elias belongs to the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association, the Detroit District Dental Society and the Oakland County Dental Society. He is currently president-elect of the Alumni Board at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry.
Dr. Elias graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry and currently practices dentistry in Royal Oak, Mich. He also is a practicing attorney, receiving his law degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State in 1990. He maintains private law practices in Royal Oak and Roseville, Mich.
Dr. Elias and his wife, Maggie, have been married for 31 years; they have three children, Samuel, Thomas and Kayla.
