Bizdom U Seeks Entrepreneurs to Create New Businesses in the City of Detroit

DETROIT, May 25 /PRNewswire/ — Bizdom U, the Detroit entrepreneurship accelerator, today announced it is seeking up to 20 entrepreneurs to join its Fall 2010 session. The application deadline is June 11, 2010. Developed by Quicken Loans founder and Cleveland Cavaliers owner, Dan Gilbert, Bizdom U is a nonprofit organization dedicated to launching innovative, growth-oriented businesses in the City of Detroit.

Bizdom U provides entrepreneurs with all of the training, mentorship and resources necessary to start and operate a successful business. Entrepreneurs who are accepted into the four-month, full-time program are provided with all training at no-cost, including a living stipend, laptops, personal data devices and materials. Training is real-world, interactive and comprehensive. Entrepreneurs also develop a plan for a Detroit-based business while attending the program. Entrepreneurs that complete the program and prepare an approved plan for a viable Detroit-based business will receive start-up funding that is available from the nonprofit Bizdom U Fund, of up to $100,000.

The application and selection process is comprehensive, designed to find those with a true passion for starting a business. Candidates should be driven to build something of value. “The application process is rigorous but needs to be because entrepreneurs accepted into the program receive a lot,” said Ross Sanders, Executive Director, Bizdom U.

Entrepreneurship is critical to economic development and is supported by community leaders. Bizdom U is funded by Dan Gilbert, The New Economy Initiative for Southeast Michigan and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

Bizdom U is a comprehensive, non-profit, entrepreneurship accelerator located in Detroit, Michigan. The program was launched by Dan Gilbert, founder and chairman of Quicken Loans and majority owner of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers, in January 2007. Training is conducted by local entrepreneurs and professionals who share their real-world and personal experiences with entrepreneurs in the program. During the four month, full-time, program, entrepreneurs prepare business plans for a business which must be located within the city of Detroit. Entrepreneurs whose plans are approved will receive start-up funding for their plan of up to $100,000. Bizdom U maintains a share of ownership in each business, using its share of the proceeds to fund future entrepreneurs that will launch even more innovative businesses in the City of Detroit.
