Robert J. Gibbs, founder and president of Birmingham-based Gibbs Planning Group, has received an honorary Doctor of Arts degree from Oakland University in Rochester.
Gibbs Planning Group is an urban planning and real estate advisory consultancy. Gibbs has led the planning and design of historic towns and districts both in and outside of the U.S., consulting with more than 500 cities, institutions, and real estate developers around the world.
He contributed to the Birmingham 2016 Master Plan, providing sight-seeing qualities and walkable areas.
Gibbs was honored by the Clinton Presidential Library for contributing to urban planning. He also received the Michigan American Society of Landscape Architects Merit Award.
He is an Oakland University graduate, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in social studies in 1977. His expertise extended to Harvard, as he now teaches courses at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
