BHSH System, a health care system resulting from the combination of Beaumonth Health and Spectrum Health in Southfield and Grand Rapids respectively, announced Dr. Benjamin Schwartz as the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health.

“In the search for the new president of BHSH Beaumont Health, we were looking for a leader with the proven ability to drive excellence, a strong developer of teams and culture, a dynamic communicator, and a strategic and systems thinker. Dr. Schwartz exemplifies these qualities,” says Tina Freese Decker, president and CEO of BHSH System.

“He is a visionary health care leader with a passion for taking health care into the future. He is also committed to fostering and inspiring a vibrant culture for our team at BHSH Beaumont Health, and for leading this team toward our bold vision.”

Schwartz has provided care and served in executive and administrative leadership roles, with responsibility for hundreds of practices, six acute care hospitals, and a behavioral health hospital during his 27-year career.

He joins BHSH Beaumont Health from Northwell Health in New York, where he has served as senior vice president and a physician executive for the eastern region. Additionally, he is an associate professor at several institutions and serves on the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Dallas.

“I’m confident Dr. Schwartz’s leadership, clinical expertise and shared vision for our integrated system will allow us to continue our excellent service, clinical research, and extend our reach to improve health for our communities,” says Christopher Blake, chair of the BHSH Beaumont Health Board of Directors.

Schwartz completed his bachelor’s degree at Dartmouth College. He graduated with a medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and earned a master’s from Harvard University.

“I believe that our thorough, national search to select the new president has helped us identify an outstanding leader who will build on our strengths and take our organization to the next level,” says Blake.

Decker also recognized Nancy Susick for her many contributions as interim president for BHSH Beaumont Health. “I am grateful for Nancy’s dedication and steadfast leadership in the interim role for our organization. She is a highly respected leader, who lives our values every day.”
