Bedrock to Demolish Blighted Building in Downtown Detroit

Detroit-based Bedrock Real Estate Services will demolish a fire-damaged, blighted building Thursday in Detroit’s Capitol Park neighborhood.

Bedrock acquired the three-story structure, located at 1416 Griswold St. between Grand River Avenue and Clifford Street, in 2015. It will be the first blighted commercial building to be demolished by the company in the central business district.

A new mixed-use complex will be constructed at the site, along with the adjoining vacant lot at 28 West Grand River Ave.

The building will be demolished at 7 a.m. by excavation equipment that will “claw” the building down rather than implode the building.
