Black Enterprise magazine today announced Cleamon Moorer, Jr. as one of 100 Modern Men of Distinction. Moorer, dean of Baker College’s School of Business, was also attributed the nickname “Mr. Higher Learning.” The magazine, which reports on business, investing, and wealth-building resources for African-Americans, created the Men of Distinction feature to highlight black men succeeding as significant contributors to industry and community and to counter media and popular culture narrative.

“To be called ‘Mr. Higher Learning’ is more than humbling,” says Moorer. “I have some big shoes to fill.”

Moorer joined Baker College in May 2016. Since then, he has overseen reaffirmation of business administration programs by the International Accreditation Council for Business Education through 2023, and strengthened relationships with employers to arrange curricula around modern workplace demands.

His book, “From Failure to Promise: 360 Degrees,” which details his rise to the top of his industry after failing out of college, is currently the best-selling educator’s memoir at Walmart.  He plans to release a second book, “Pursue Promise,” based on his 2016 TED Talk.

Moorer says his accomplishments have made him a role model for his four sons. He adds that he intends to “inspire, influence and impart legacy in all of my interactions with others by working with mentees, colleagues, and subordinates to brainstorm sound solutions or paths to achieve optimal goal attainment.”

Moorer was also DBusiness30 in their Thirties in 2015.
