Baker College of Auburn Hills Names New President

1961

AUBURN HILLS — Baker College officials have named Peter W. Karsten, Ph.D. CPA, as president of Baker College of Auburn Hills.

Karsten returns to the Auburn Hills campus after serving six years as president of Baker College of Owosso. He joined Baker College in 1992 and had advanced to vice president for academics at Baker College of Auburn Hills before taking the Owosso position.

He succeeds Jeff Love, who is retiring after more than 45 years with Baker College, including nearly 20 years as president for Baker College of Auburn Hills.

During Karsten’s tenure as president of Baker College of Owosso, the campus achieved record levels of student enrollment and number of graduates; added several new programs and a student housing option; and constructed and opened the 40,000-square-foot Health Sciences Building and the 43,000-square-foot Auto/Diesel Institute of Michigan facility.

Karsten began his Baker College career as a financial aid adviser at the Clinton Township campus. He transferred to the Auburn Hills campus where he was a member of the accounting faculty and dean of general education and accounting before becoming vice president for academics.

Karsten holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Oakland University, a master’s in education from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor’s and an MBA in accounting from Michigan State University.
