Attorney Joins Grand Rapids-based Varnum’s Detroit Office

Grand Rapids-based Varnum LLP has announced the addition of Steve Cappellino to its Detroit office as a member of the tax planning, compliance, and litigation practice team. Cappellino’s previous experience includes more than 12 years with the IRS and as a certified public accountant with an international accounting firm.

During his career with the IRS, Cappellino served as a special trial attorney in the office of chief counsel, handling business tax cases of national significance. He was also a senior attorney, advising IRS auditors, managers, and executives on domestic and international issues and tax procedure. As a certified public accountant with Ernst and Young, Cappellino provided compliance consulting and controversy services. He also has a background in sales, use, and personal property taxes and was a corporate attorney.

Cappellino is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and earned his Master of Laws in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He attended Miami University for his undergraduate degree, majoring in accounting and finance.

Cappellino has also served as an adjunct professor of international taxation at Wayne State University Law School.
