WARREN — A new, 60-foot long musical float featuring a piano, oversized records, and toe-tapping Motown tunes will entertain parade goers lining Woodward Avenue at this year’s America’s Thanksgiving Parade.

The float, commissioned by Art Van Furniture, sponsor of this year’s parade, celebrates the 55th anniversary of the furniture and mattress retailer, based in Warren, as well the Motown legacy and the Motown Museum.

“Motown is synonymous with Detroit, and this new float is our way of saluting and sharing its 55 year musical legacy with Michigan as well as the entire country,” said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van Furniture. “This is a joint anniversary gift for families to enjoy for decades to come.”

“For the first time in the history of the Parade Co., this new Motown inspired float will share with local and national audiences how the unmistakable Motown Sound was born in Detroit,” said Robin Terry, chairman of the board of trustees of the Motown Museum.

Art Van Furniture’s “Art Van Wonderland” float, which debuted last year to celebrate its spectacular holiday destinations at its Warren and Grand Rapids flagship stores, will again also roll down the parade route.
