Annual Metro Detroit Heart Ball to Celebrate Heroes

DETROIT — The stage is set for the American Heart Association’s Metropolitan Detroit Heart Ball presented by McLaren Macomb, June 6 at Eastern Market in Shed 3, located at 2934 Russell St. in Detroit.  The ball kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and features a strolling cocktail reception, dinner, dancing and unique live and silent auctions.  Tickets are $1,250 each and corporate sponsorships begin at $10,000.

Leading this year’s $1.2 million campaign is Mark O’Halla, executive vice president and chief operating officer of McLaren Health Care Corporation. Contributions raised from the campaign are used to fund cardiovascular research and educational programs. Carolyn Clifford of WXYZ Channel 7 will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

“The Heart Ball gives us an opportunity to spotlight our heart heroes—the individuals dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke in communities across southeast Michigan,” said O’Halla. “Heart disease continues to take the lives of 600,000 Americans each year. We ask that others ‘be heroic’ and help eradicate heart disease and stroke.”

The black-tie affair is designed to increase funding for research, education and community programs while paying homage to the American Heart Association’s donors and volunteers.  Since its inception, the campaign has raised more than $21 million in funding.

In addition to gourmet dining and top flight auction items, attendees can dance the night away with music from the Lucas Paul Band and The Motor City Golden Boys.  Attendees will also hear an inspiring message from Jackson Smoke, an eight year old who was born with a congenital heart defect.

“Donations have helped the American Heart Association fund research breakthroughs such as CPR and pacemakers,” said Shelley Rusinek, vice president of Development for the Southeast Michigan American Heart Association.  “Through life-saving stories like Jackson’s, we hope the community continues to fund the lifesaving work of the American Heart Association.”
