Annual Fundraiser Set to Benefit Belle Isle Aquarium

DETROIT — Back for a second year, the Belle Isle Conservancy will celebrate the season during special holiday fundraiser, Light Up the Aquarium Dec. 5.

Guests will enjoy a festive evening in the Albert Kahn-designed aquarium with hors d’ouevres, beverages, a live jazz ensemble and silent auction. A special VIP champagne preview of the auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Last year’s event drew more than 300 guests and raised funds to bring electric eels to the 110-year-old aquarium. This year, proceeds will benefit the maintenance and continued operation of the aquarium, including a brand new exhibit to be unveiled during the celebration.

“We are excited to share the incredible progress that we’ve made since last year’s event,” says Jennifer Boardman, the co-chair of the Belle Isle Aquarium Committee.

Tickets for this year’s event are available at three price and experience points, including:

  • Eagle Ray Ticket ($60 in advance / $65 at the door) – includes admission to the event and complimentary beer, wine and hor d’ouevres.
  • Sting Ray Ticket ($100 advance only) – includes admission to the event, complimentary beer, wine and hor d’ouevres, as well as an invitation to the VIP champagne auction preview.
  • Manta Ray Ticket ($250 advance only) – includes admission to event, complimentary beer, wine and hor d’ouevres, as well as an invitation to the VIP champagne auction preview and a commemorative mug

Tickets are available online at belleisleconservancy.org through Dec. 1.

Additionally, guests are invited to visit the Belle Isle Aquarium during the Holiday Stroll Dec. 12. Open to the public, the free event invites guests to enjoy holiday music and decorations from 5-8 p.m.  at the Belle Isle Aquarium, Belle Isle Conservatory and Dossin Great Lakes Museum.
