Annual Benefit Planned for Belle Isle Aquarium & Conservatory

1791

DETROIT — The 8th annual Garden Party on Belle Isle Benefit will be held  Sept. 9 on the grounds of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory on Belle Isle.

Proceeds from the event will support the restoration of the passage between the Belle Isle’s Conservatory and Aquarium, returning the building to its original 1904 design by renowned architect Albert Kahn. The two buildings were originally linked by a grand staircase, which allowed guests to travel easily between the worlds of fish and flowers. Funds raised at the Garden Party will support the kick-off of this project, including architectural studies, plans and specifications.

Party guests will enjoy live music by popular jazz musician Ben Sharkey, hors d’oeuvres and complimentary cocktails, and wine tasting, hosted by Liquid Events.  Guests will be able to sample their way through Michigan’s renowned Leelanau Wine Cellars’ portfolio as well as enjoy two craft cocktails created specifically for this event by Valentine Distilling of Ferndale.  The Conservatory and the Aquarium and their grounds will be open for guests to enjoy and tour.

Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at belleisleconservancy.org or by sending a check payable to the Belle Isle Conservancy, 8109 E. Jefferson, Detroit, MI 48214. The event co-chairs are Robin Heller and Sonya Ackman, both of Grosse Pointe Farms.
