MILFORD — Making considerable progress in the call for donations, organizers of AMP in Central Park, are nearing the close of a community-driven initiative to raise $550,000 and build a one-of-a-kind outdoor amphitheater in downtown Milford.

Over the past 5 months organizers have raised just over $400,000, including a $155,000 contribution from the LaFontaine family, owners of LaFontaine Automotive Group and longtime Milford residents.

“The overwhelming support we’ve witnessed for AMP in Central Park is a testament to the strong community values Milford residents, business owners and municipalities hold so dearly,” said Ann Barnette, executive director of the Milford Downtown Development Authority.  “We’re grateful for the Township’s decision to help fund the initiative, as it reaffirms the project as a community investment.”

Organizers expect to bring the project to the planning commission in December, followed by the Village Council in January. Once approved, the project will go out to bid in the first quarter of next year. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2014.
