The 22nd annual American Sewing Expo returns to the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi from Sept. 25 – 27.
“Show visitors can learn to quilt or sew, test-drive sewing machines, and get creative tips at this year’s show,” says Janet Pray, producer of the show. “Everyone will be inspired by so many possibilities to learn new crafts, brush up on techniques, and find out how the experts do it.”
The expo will feature various sewing equipment and accessories, exhibits, fashion shows, live sewing challenge competitions, seminars, classes, and workshops. Special exhibits and events will also be on display throughout the weekend.
Inspired by Lifetime’s Project Runway, the Passion for Fashion Sewing Challenge will feature 12 finalists who will design and sew garments on Friday and Saturday, be judged during a fashion show on Saturday, and display their creations on Sunday.
The Innovation Generation Fashion Show Competition will be held on Saturday for 8 to 18 year olds who know the sewing process and have made their own garments, and attendees can participate in the Costume Contest Fashion Show on Sunday.
Featured guests and show instructors include Luke Haynes, art quilter and designer; Kathleen Andrews, optical illusion quilt designer; Kristie Good, cosplay designer; Andrea Schewe, Simplicity Patterns costume pattern designer; Angela Wolf, fashion sewing expert from It’s Sew Easy TV; Joi Mahon, Baby Lock’s Love of Fashion national spokes-designer; and Latifah Saafir, Janome educator and modern quilter.
Admission is $14, and children 15 and under are admitted for free with a paying adult. One-hour seminars are $14, all-day workshops are $130 and special combination packages are available. Onsite parking is available for $5.
